Interesting
It is always interesting to get into the mindset of an employer, and see what they are looking for.
Candidates usually have no idea their CV has even been submitted unless they are called for an interview.
Scrutinised
Some recruiters scrutinize CVs for inconsistencies, and if any "inconsistencies" are identified, then they are binned.
This is reason enough for contractors to give a thought to their CV and consider "tailoring." They should always take a copy of the ORIGINAL CV to the interview.
There are some very unscrupulous agents out there who have no qualms adding their own bits to your CV, in order to get you in front of the client.
Candidate Neutralisation?
There is also a growing trend of "candidate neutralisation" amongst agencies.
Agents generally submit three candidates to a client, but continue collecting CV's including those of the good ones. They usually tell the good ones that their CVs have "been put forward" or “your CV is with the client," whereas in reality they don't want you submitted through a rival.
Do not fall into their trap. Be extremely wary.
Solution
To avoid being shortchanged, you can wait a few days and then ring another agent chasing the job.
Ask if it is still open. If yes, you can tell him/her that your CV was supposedly submitted, but you have heard nothing. Get the agent to confirm with the client if they are still considering your application.
You may be shocked to learn that they have never heard of you!
