7 Reasons a CV will get binned

One cannot gloss over any reason that gets a CV trashed, but CVs get binned especially because of these reasons:

    1. Waffle on Page One –  Not finding the core skill required for the profile at a glance  on the first page  may prompt the CV Agent to decide your fate right away. As one CV Agents said “If I don’t see the skill I want in the first 10 seconds the CV gets binned and I start on the next one of the 200 I’ve been sent.”

    2. Your last job is the most important. If it’s not near the front with the skills used, you’ll miss your chance.

    3. Hobbies – Mentioning your hobbies on your CV is a put-off.  It won’t get you the job. Remember they’re looking for people who fit in, and that may not be what your hobbies tell them about you.

Not everyone will want to hire you because you are an able Scoutmaster, let's say.

    4. Fancy paper - Agents and employers don’t get impressed by fancy paper. If you send your CV in by post and if they can’t find what they are seeking, they won’t think twice before dumping this Fancy Dan’s CV in the bin.

    5. Gaps in the CV – That may land you in a sticky situation. Interviewers never like this sort of a thing and expect you to explain it by giving plausible reasons for it.

    6. Boasting – You’ve got to talk yourself up on your CV but don’t make yourself like a braggart trumpeting about his achievements. Avoid writing comments like “I was the most important factor in the Project’s success.”

    7. Too many short contracts –  This could be a complete put off and will lead them to conclude either that you must have been thrown out in some of them or that no one ever wanted to renew your contract.
